I would first think about where your sudden, new traffic comes from. If visits are untargeted or forced, most times they are useless for increasing sales or profits.
If your traffic quality is good and you are getting pre-qualified visitors (i.e. they come to your site because they are interested in what you have to offer), then it may be a conversion issue. I'd gravitate toward the first reason, though. If it were conversion, seems like you would see at least a small sales increase with that much additional traffic.

It means there is something about your site making interested visitors not buy from you. There are many, many potential reasons for this. Scottie's idea to post your site for review in the Website Review forum is a good one. You could get ideas about what is going wrong.
What is that a conversion issue and how to deal with that?
A couple of general possibilities...
- Too hard for visitors to find purchase area/link on site; not enough information; checkout process is too long or glitchy, etc. Nine Design Tips To Help Turn Browsers Into Buyers by John Staubly may give you some clues.
- Attracting people who are doing research (ie not yet ready to buy), then they never come back to buy. This article, They're Searching So Why Aren't They Buying by Karon Thackston, might help.
