Hello all,

I just got off the phone talking to a client and defining the following terms to them.

Search Engine Friendly Site
Search Engine Optimization

I was wondering how other define these terms when talking to the general "know it all" client.

You'll probably get a wide array of definitions but here it goes...

Search Engine Friendly Site - A site that is able to be crawled and indexed by search engines and which has optimized title tags, meta description tags and html content so that search engines can accurately understand what each page is about.

Search Engine Optimization - The process of modifying various elements of a web site in order to improve visibility of the site in the SERPs when search queries related to the site are conducted.

Search engine friendly site, should really be "crawler friendly site" as my friend Mike Grehan likes to point out. This simply means that the site architecture is such that the search spiders can crawl through the site and index all the pages.

Search engine optimization is the act of making a site the best it can be for the search engines and your users. (My definition.)

Thanks for the reponses, they follow the same lines as what I was telling my client. Just wanted to double check that I am using industry stantards.
