Ok, so i came across this service that offers to submit to a ton of search engines for free. Can it hurt or harm you? I know its not a substitute for adding yourself to the main engines and directories by hand....but otherwise is it good or bad. I dont think i am supposed to post a link so I will just post a their summary without their name.

"Have a web site but no one knows about it? Not getting traffic to your site? We've been helping thousands advertise their site all over the Internet every month with our URL promotion service. We submit URLs to over 29260 search engines including Yahoo!, Google, Entireweb and many other top worldwide search engines and directories as well as Country-specific search engines. It also submits to an amazing 4.3 Million FFA (Free For All) link pages, over 149325 Classified Ads sites and over 22760 Message Boards! All free and no catch ever! "

It's just a big fat waste of money, and a spam trap because they sell your email address.

What's the main goal of a search engine? To provide relevant content to searchers. If they were dependent on web site owners submitting their sites they wouldn't likely have a ton of relevant content, would they?

Also, when search engines are trying to decide how important a site is, do you think they're going to give much weight to links on FFA link pages, classified ads, or message boards? Not likely.

In my opinion, services like this are priced low enough where businesses will likely not bother fighting the charge is nothing comes of it.

Basically, it shouldn't hurt you, but don't expect it to help you either.
