Hi ,

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a top ranking in Google. I cannot seem to get indexed in the top of google despite the site being optimized for the Keywords Le Marche.

I have noticed other sites with far less related content for Le Marche get in the top for the same category.

The Keywords and Key phrase I am looking to get a top ranking for is "Le Marche" and "accommodation in le Marche, Italy"

I would appreciate any help or advice on this

Thanks in advance

Chris Claudius

Hi and welcome Chris !

Once you have reached Active Member status (20 posts) you can submit your site for a Site Review and will likely get lots of advice.

As to your general question of how long it takes, that depends upon many factors. How competitive the market is, how well your site is indexed, how it stacks up against the competition, etc, etc. There is no stock answer that will apply in every case.

It can take a long time, and it depends on a lot of different factors. A page of mine that's been up for about a year and a half just jumped into the top 5 for [city] [keyword phrase] and [keyword phrase] [city] a couple of days ago, apparently because I added one more mention of the city name on the page.

It's going to depend on your on-page factors, your inbound links and their anchor text, and (this is the part you have the least control over) how well your competitors are optimizing for the phrase.

Hi Chris,

Just to share my experience.
A web site I have been working on was launched February 1, 2004. The home page was indexed within two weeks and got several top 10 positions for targeted keywords. Once more pages were indexed, the home page started to lose ground, but other pages got better rankings. Now, 3 months later, we have more than 20 nr 1 positions on relevant two keyword phrases and more than 100 top 10 positions on one, two and three keyword phrases. Among them are fairly competitive phrases. So it does not need to take a long time, just as long as you stick to the tips you can find in this forum.

See - a little patience goes a long way. That and incorporating the best optimization strategy as well. Congratulations, Plankie!

I did not consider running a PPC campaign. The site was launched well in advance of the holiday season (it is for a small scale mountain hotel and campsite). Our emphasis is on hiking in the mountains. We have arranged a small number of backlinks (+/-20) on hiking web sites. Traffic from Google now amounts to 40% off all visits, MSN and Yahoo do virtually nothing. The backlinks add about 25%.

But the best thing is that my friend, the hotel owner is now complaining to me that he get's too much business. He now has to work.... :applause:
