NO. Your domain extension should fit your website information. (.id - personal, .com - commercial, com.au - commercial australia, .net - network, etc)

The top level domain doesn't make any difference to a search engine. However for branding purposes, a .com is always the best IMO.

It appears that your TLD can make a difference when you're searching from a regional seach engine (eg: yahoo.ca vs yahoo.com) where the search engine will give preference to sites with a regioanl TLD.
