Lately, I'm hearing a lot of people in the forum and in my email saying things like:

I am at a loss as how to get my links included on other sites. I only have a few partners and they have posted my links but they don't have much impact, because they are also small. Do you have any creative suggestions?

It seems that many people are in the same boat.

If this sounds familiar, don't despair! We've got some great answers for you already written in the form of High Rankings Advisor articles that have been published over the years.

So before you post the same question (or similar) as the one above, please take some time to read the articles linked below. If you have questions about them or any other aspect of link building, feel free to then ask them in this forum.

Buying Text Links - from 2006.

"Buying text links. It's all the rage.
Is it evil? Is it good? Will it help your search engine rankings? Will it get you banned? Will it increase your PageRank? Will it increase your link popularity? Will it bring targeted traffic to your site? Should you do it? Should you hire a broker to do it?
These are the questions on webmasters' and search marketers' minds. What follows is my take on buying text links."

Reciprocal Linking vs. Mutual Linking - Scottie's article written at the tail end of 2005.

"Some of the advice floating around regarding linking for your site can be
pretty confusing, especially when it comes to reciprocal linking. Is it
something you have to do? Can your site succeed without reciprocal links?
Will you be penalized for reciprocal linking? There are so many conflicting
theories...let's try to clear the subject up a little."

Secret Weapon in the Link Wars - an article by Dan Thies from Oct. 2005.

Are you paying to get links to your website? How much? When I hear how
much some people are paying to rent links from text-link brokers, paid
directories, and other sources, I laugh. Seriously, I've met folks
with budgets in the thousands of dollars per month, and all I can do
is laugh.

Jill's SEO Ramblings - Written in August 2005, this article isn't specifically about link popularity, but it does have some pertinent info.

Another thing people seem to misunderstand is link-building. Many
people think that they *must* perform a reciprocal-linking campaign in
order to achieve high rankings. The error in this thinking has to do
with the reciprocity aspect. They have heard the word "reciprocal" so
many times that they think it's the secret to success.

Link Popularity and Search Engine Optimization - I wrote this one way back at the beginning of 2001, but updated it this Aug 2004.

Should One Request Links From Inner Pages - A Q&A from the High Rankings® Advisor.

Finding Free Niche Directories - This is a guest article written by forum member K.S. Katz. A must read if you're looking to get some links quickly!

Links Are All About Reputation - This is an interview that our own Scottie Claiborne conducted with Mike Grehan during an SES conference.

Press Release SEO - Media Kit Linking Campaigns - This article by Mike Banks Valentine describes how to obtain links to your site in ways you may never have thought about.

PageRank Articles

PageRank Mania - Are you obsessed with PageRank? Read this reminder that PageRank is not the be-all-end-all to rankings.

Links are Good for Business. - Every now and then it's a good idea to do a reality check and find out what real business owners are doing to build their site traffic and
rankings. This article by forum admin, Scottie, will give you some great info from the small biz perspective.
