Hey folks, how does this sound as a press release?

New Personal Finance website launches

Wallasey, Wirral - 24th April, 2004: Announced today was the release of CreditYeti.co.uk, a professional personal finance website designed to help users find the best financial deal online. In the three months since its conception, CreditYeti.co.uk founders, Alex Jones and Chris Hough, have worked tirelessly to create one of the most comprehensive sources of personal finance information online, providing users of the site with complimentary guides, best buy recommendations and online comparison tools.
Chris Hough, co-founder of CreditYeti.co.uk, reiterated the company's commitment to the new website. "We felt it was important to produce an easy to use, ad free website that people could just get online and use. Too many times we have seen websites become cluttered and unusable due to the sheer amount of advertising bumph that is plastered all over the page. This confuses the user and detracts from the website's purpose. You wont find that at CreditYeti.co.uk . We know our market and we know they want easily accessible information; for free."

Feature List:
Friendly, advert free website
Credit Card Guides
Credit Card Comprison service
Credit Card Best Buy table
Bad Credit Credit Card Guide
Life Assurance Guide
Life Assurance Finder Service
Personal Loan Guide
Secured Loan Guide
Personal Loan Comparison Service
Secured Loan Comparison Service
Bad Credit Loan Guide
Mortgage Guide
Mortgage Finder Service

More to come:
With a projected launch date of Summer 2004, CreditYeti.co.uk plans to increase its range of services further still by include a News service, a Newsletter and a 'Goodies Section'.
Chris Hough explained more. "The goodies section will be a collection of links and data tables that our more web-literate user base will be able to display on their own websites. At present we haven't decided exactly what we want to provide for use on external website, but we think it will be information such as Credit Card and Loan best buy tables, Comparison forms that can be integrated with the browser etc."

Pricing and availability:
CreditYeti.co.uk is a free service and will be available online from 1st May 2004

Personally, I don't think the launch of a website is really press release fodder. I doubt it will get picked up by any news sources.

Where's the hook?

I agree with Jill. This type of release isn't news and will without doubt be ignored by reporters.

Try taking a different angle. For example, I recently wrote a press release about how businesses in Silicon Valley have been slow to realize the advantages of SEO.

The release was to get publicity for myself (which it did). But, if I'd just announced my new website or service or whatever, there's no way I would have got any coverage.

Consider the following headlines and the impact of different angles.

Rats bites baby
Rats bite infant: Landlord, tenants dispute blame
Rat bites rising in city's "Zone of Death"

Which one would you put on the front page?

Even if you implement a more compelling angle, your chances of getting picked up will be far greater if you pitch the release to relevant pubs/sites/zines/blogs your target audience might be reading.
