I have been reading with interest the discussions about what directories are good to submit to. I don't have time to be an editor. Is it worth the $40 to submit to GoGuides? We have an ecommerce site that has just been launched.

Does anyone know of good gourmet food directory sites?

Welcome, Nancy! :notworthy:

One benefit of being in GoGuides is that the search engines can spider through it, and it helps your site get into the search engines faster.

If $40 is not a huge amount to your company, then it's probably worth paying it. Or, there may be editors on this forum that can submit it for you. I've never personally taken the time to fill out their editor forms either.

As suggested by Jill goguides.org helps you to get into search engines more easily.

Not only that you can get some traffic from goguides. Even though it may be less but why to miss it even, if $40 is not a huge amount for your company.

I definitely recommend GoGuides. If you don't have time to be an editor, the one-time $40 fee is worth it, IMO.

Thanks for all the helpful advice everyone. Do you think the value of paying for being in this directory is that we will get actual leads from it or mainly because of the search engine spidering benefits?

Good question, Nancy!

Our of curiosity, I went through about 6 sitelogs (quickly) and found that it varies. I have one site that gets a nice amount of traffic each month from GoGuides, down to one that gets nothing.

I'd have to say it depends on the site as to whether or not people are looking for that info in GoGuides. But I do believe as they continue to grow and become well-known on the Internet, more people will actually use the directories to find sites. I think it is a long-term investment.

psst- your signature file needs to fit on 2 lines or Jill will chop it!

hi Nancy!
(you probably won't remember, but I talked to you for like 2 seconds on the google boozecruise i think:)

I don't really see any direct traffic from GoGuides as of yet, but if they do continue to grow, it's always nice to have been in a directory early on. That said, I think it is worthwhile for an added inbound link, but that should never be your only focus for obtaining directory listings - you may just be surprised which ones actually send new customers on their own too.

Back to your original question, check out these lists of Food Directories and see if any within are appropriate to list your business:

And after all this I just tried to submit to GoGuides and got an error message when I went to submit payment! Looks like they are having some technical problems...
:hehe:

Jill
Help me understand what I need to do about the signature - I was just filling in the blanks (or so I thought).

Glad you liked the freebies! ;-)

Truth to be told - I actually sent Jill some COUPONS good for any Gorton's retail products. So while her family does enjoy fish sticks, they can also try our Grilled Fillets, Popcorn Fish, Shrimp Bowls or other yummy products.
Of course any combination of seafood and chocolate would be a little weird...but you never know...
