Hi all, I'm Jason, this is my first post so go easy on me. First of all I'd like to say this forum is fantastic, checking the interesting threads has become a daily routine for me. Hopefully some day I will be able to contribute.

I am curious.. I look at the backlinks to our company's website and I notice some of our user pages show up as backlinks (we are an ISP, the user backlinks are the URLs with a tilde ~ in them ). I am wondering if Google really does consider these backlinks to our main page? and if so do these pages help our PR in any way?

Thanks everyone!
-Jason

I guess Google does! Why would it make a difference? But When I looked at their PR, it was greyed out! But still, is is a page to Google. It doesn't matter what the url or anything is as long as they can spider it

Welcome centaur! :notworthy:

I checked the link you provided, noted the URL and checked this independently for backlinks. They differ from the URL you provided and do not show the same results.

Perhaps you can shed more light on the URL you used in your example?

Ah, there is a difference between issuing "link: www.greenapple.com" and "link: http://www.greenapple.com/". The link I provided was the first one. A syntax error on my part. :notworthy:

It looks as if the first one finds results with "www.greenapple.com" within the text of the link. And the second gives backlinks to "http://www.greenapple.com/". Thank you for catching that magnolia!

Cheers!

I had the same experience as Magnolia. How long has your site been up? The only time I've seen this -- backlinks shown from pages without a PR -- was early in a pages history and before Google had completely finished doing all it's PR rank assignments.

If that is the case wait a couple of days and all will be revealed :notworthy:

The structure of our website changed late June to reflect our core businesses. Most pages moved into this new structure, but some remained the same (contact us, jobs, site index were not moved in the restructure). PR hasn't shown up yet on the toolbar for the moved pages since June, but these pages are getting indexed and getting traffic which are the things that matter anyways. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Google to start showing the PR for these pages.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Jason! :notworthy:

Interesting question... I would think that as long as those sites include your url, they will be counted as backlinks.

I put a site up very close to June 1, it may have been the last couple of days in May and Google just applied the PRs to it a week ago. Be patient and I'm sure it will clearup.
