Hi All,

I've been doing this SEO thing now for years and consider myself to be fairly good at it. Recently we hired a new programmer and he threw a few phrases at me that I had never heard before. These were "subjective URL's" and "objective URL's". I pretty much knew in my mind what he was talking about but he looked at me like I was an idiot for never having heard them before. Same thing, different name.
Here's another one, (I don't want to say what I call them because I want to know what your terms for these are.)
In the page code when creating links I use the second of the two listed below (it makes possible changes to files down the road much easier) What are the terms that you guys use to describe the types below? Just really curious here.

1. ../../bigwidgets/flexible.html

2. h ttp://www.bfw.com/widgets/bigwidgets/flexible.html

Marty

1. Relative URL
2. Absolute URL

For SEO, there is no advantage to either approach. I prefer using #1 because it allows me test the site's links while running the site at a different location (sub folder or locally).

Thanks Haystack, thats the same thing I've been calling them.
Just out of curiosity though... have you ever heard the terms subjective URL's and objective URL's. I've even tried a search with not much in the results department.

I've never heard of subjective or objective URLs, and URLs are certainly not subjective.

Ditto on both.

I think the guy made up those terms, or simply forgot the words absolute and relative!

I would agree that those are made up terms.

My experience is that when something like this happens, the person doing it knows less than you think they know.

Recently we hired a new programmer

Can't you reverse this? :D

One of the things that drives me mad is the way some people talk down to others. There is absolutely no need for this, it is quite simply bullying by another method. There is no place for this in any team. There is always someone who knows something more about something else.

I kind of like this quote

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing. (Emo Philips)

It is sort of relevant.

Ah,

A little Welch humor.... you just have to love it.

One of the things that drives me mad is the way some people talk down to others.

Truer words were never spoken. Thanks so much for writing that. Maybe others will read and head.

Thanks everyone,

Marty

As an indication, Google says there are a whopping 7 pages with "Subjective URL" out of the bazillions they now spider. Guess he made it up. Sounds like he's trying to BS his way past you and as a programmer by trade that really burns me up :raspberry: People deal with bozos like this and when I come along they don't trust me.
