To Submit Or Not To Submit..

Here's my question...
I have a site that is completed but needs to be SEO'd. Should I submit to a directory since I want to be listed and then start working on SEO for better placement at Google, etc. or do I wait until I think phase 1 SEO is good to go and then submit....
Thanks,

I don't see that it matters as long as phase 1 SEO is going to be completed soon. It normally takes a while before the directories list the page so there maybe some wisdom in submitting to them early..

As I have said elsewhere we always put a link on our company web page to sites we host and/or sites we design. We put up that link as some as the DNS is registered and there is an "under construction" page put up on the domain. The result of that is that by the time the site is actually designed and published Google will already know about the URL.

Is your site good enough to get into the directories? Is the copy already focused on the keyword phrases you want to rank highly with?
If not, then I'd wait until it's optimized, at least partially.
Otherwise, the directory editors may not actually believe your site is about whatever it is you say it's about because the keywords aren't reflected on your site.

But I think I'm a day or two away from partially being ready. At least in my mind.

If the client is chomping at the bit, sure, but if they are not, I'd wait. It's my preference, but I'm more of a sniper than a machine-gun type, so I like to get everything organised and lined up before I pull the trigger
