I carried out a fairly extensive SEO about 2/3 weeks ago but Google's cache of the site has not been updated.

Any idea how long this normally takes?

24 to 72 hours after Googlebot spiders the page is the norm. Check your server logs/ stats package to see ig Gbot has been. If it has then check your code to make sure there is nothing stopping it spidering, really bad code errors, nested tables etc

i've checked it using the lynx view utility at delorie.com and its appears to be ok.

i've run it through a validator - and whilst its not perfect it doesn't appear to be much worse than many other sites.

its a bit of a mystery and bugging me like hell!!

You need to wait 4 - 6 weeks for your new pages to stick. Come back in a few more and I'll bet all will be up to date.

Nested tables don't stop spiders. I've sure never seen it happen.

i often use nested tables to get a page layout to look right and i've not found that it effects page ranking as far as i'm aware.

Re: Nested Tables

Let me clarify, I should have said Deep nested tables. Nesting 1 inside the other is fine, but when you start nesting 3 or more deep you can definitely cause problems, especially if the site is dynamic, as the spiders get held up and back out (well the respectful ones do).

I have come across two cases of this happening, and as soon as we removed the multiple nesting, Googlebot spidered the site without problem.

I should have made that clear in my original post (sorry)

I have had the same problem with a client OWG. Well, it was the only problem near on with there site. Tables went 8 deep. Changed the layout, left nearly everything else the same, a little CSS change and further clean up of the code and rankings away. I love to keep it simple.
