Our web server runs mirrored 36 Gb drives as our OS drives, it also runs a Raid 5 config on three other SCSI drives for 72 Gb where our websites sit. Recently a power outage (we think) crashed the server and the primary drive was destroyed (not even recognized by the machine).
We thought no problem, the backup. It turns out that drive became corrupted in the process as well (no virus here or bugs we're fairly certain) and we had to completely reinstall the OS on two new drives.
The raid and our files were fine thank goodness. The next day we bought a 216Gb Fibre storage array and are installing a remote OS install right there.
Advice: Make sure your backup of critical files is kept in a seperate machine like the wonderful "in a lamp" idea.
