Then point 'em to my SEO Analogy article for a general idea that they can understand.

Great article! I really enjoyed the read. :aloha:

How do you get to Rank 1?

Well that question is just like "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"... PRACTICE... and just like those trying to get to Carnegie Hall, not all make it to Rank 1..

Thanks Craig!

I'm not saying the SEO is neccessarily the General Contractor- I still see them more as the signage person, making sure the site is visible and you can find the page you want and trying to draw people in.

But someone has to be the general contractor overseeing the whole project- design, marketing, usability, seo, programming, etc. Someone usually is- but it's not always the right person.

The way I would seriously describe SEO to someone is that Search Engines are the new Yellow Pages. The advantage over the yellow pages is you don't have to pick just a couple of categories, if we do our jobs right people will find you for any related topic they look up.

Somehow I don't think I explained it how I wanted.. but I think ya get my point.

I've used the Yellow pages one several times, myself...
