I operate a very busy Bed and Breakfast in Vancouver BC ( www.arbutushouse.com ) and have been number one on Google and Yahoo for the key phrase "Vancouver bed and breakfast" ( as well as some others ) for about 5 years. As of Sat April 3 I seem to have vanished from the Yahoo search, although I am still in the directory and have slipped to #320 on Google. What is also very strange is that although I have had a listing on Dmoz for years, my site has also completly vanished from the directory.
I know I can re submit to Dmoz but there is no editor for this area and getting a listing seems to take forever. Is there any way to contact someone at Dmoz to try to get an explanation or does anyone have any idea why I might have dropped so drastically in both Yahoo and Google and vanished from Dmoz ??

Any help greatly appreciated

perplexed in Vancouver :naughty:

cheers

I have checked your keyword "Vancouver bed and breakfast". Your site is shown on 5th position not 320!!

Are you sure about the keyword??

Thanks for the quick replies guys but I just checked and definitely not in #5 spot. That position is Accommodations Vancouver BB network. Phoned a friend and had him check also and he doesn't get me on the first page either --what is going on here ? Why are we getting different search results ?

cheers

Probably being redirected to different servers...hang on for a day or so. I also checked using a positioning tool and it reported 5.

Here is the tool to watch your ranking on all 56 google data center.

http://www.mcdar.net/dance/index.php

By the way your site ranked 4th on google and no where to be found in first 3 search result in yahoo. As for yahoo i have seen different rotating result for yahoo search for last few days. We will see more webmaster start to scream about yahoo result in few days.

Five in some 320 in others. Maybe its because most of you are using Google.com and people in Vancouver use Google.ca? While its not a fix for your drop, it might answer one headache, and help you approach your attack to increase your rank?

Kanji:

I never use google.ca and I suspect most people in Vancouver also use the main ".com" site.

As an update, my site is currently in 67th position for "vancouver bed and breakfast" but I never could, and still can't duplicate the #4 or 5 position that some of the others were reporting. What is strange is that when I use a positioning tool such as www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/google-pr.php OR
tools.marketleap.com/ the site shows as being on page one and I suspect this is where the others were getting their findings from. However when I do an actual search using Google, the position is substantially different. I can only conclude that the positioning tools are not giving the correct results.

I also got an answer from one of the editors at DMOZ as to why the site has vanished from the ODP. We have recently sold the business and for a while we had a statement on the index page that stated that the business had been sold and that it would be inder new ownership as of June 1. Because of this the site was delisted in DMOZ. I complained that it was unfair and asked for the the listing to be reinstated but was told that the new owners would have to re submit. There is not an editor for the particular area I want the site to be listed so the submission will probably take months.

cheers, from supernatural Vancouver

I'm in the same boat. My site disappeared in mid-March and was on the first page of google. I haven't seen it since. I don't even know where it is coming up in the search engine in google. I have tried searching but gave up after I got to 100. I'm also in Canada.
