Webtrends 8.1b 100% Cpu Usage
Posted 05 April 2004 - 08:44 AM
The advanced version of 8.1B only seems to allow 50 profiles (not even half of what I need).
The old version was known to be very unstable (on average it did a severe crash after 8 reports).
After installation of 8.1B, a service was installed, which immediately pushed my CPU usage to 100% and remained there. The web based interface took a while before I could properly log in, then just to get to the second form of the "New Profile" page, took up to 5 minutes.
After a fight of maximum 30 minues, I decided that it wasn't worth the hassle and that I am better off with the unstable older version or a different log file analyser.
Before trying the uninstall, I tried to stop those services, with an excellent failure in stopping them. At least I could set their startup to disabled, then I killed them with task manager, and unistalled the entire application and deleted any leftover files.
I should mention that I am usign a Pentium 3 processor with Windows XP installed and 256MB RAM, which is good for all other big applications I run.
Has anybody got a better experience with that version? At this point having seen different buggy or useless software from WebTrends, I am not going to easily even consider thinking about trying to install such an application.
The previous version was a beast that could be mostly tamed. I am used to software taming, but this new thing was asking for a good and complete uninstall.

Their code must be quite sloppy and not too well optimised according to my experience, since different products seem to be unstable and processor hogs.
There should have at least been some warning about these 'features' regarding internsive services and other things. Imagine if multiple users actually try to use WebTrends at the same time.
