Anyone know when the next Google update on PR will occur?

And watch for an earth shattering update, as well. The size of Google's index is going to go up a LOT and this will mean PR is going to go up and/or down on a lot of sites accordingly. Hopefully, this won't come in conjunction with a major ranking algo change, but you never know.

What Grumpus said. :)

Shoe, you might also want to keep an eye out here on the forums. Generally speaking you'll see a few posts hinting at an upcoming update here a day or two before it hits in earnest. There are folks here who actively watch for these things.

Have you got anywhere I can read more about this Grumpus?

Nope. Nowhere else to read about it - this is a HighRankings.com exclusive. :D

I know it's going to be true because of Google's crawl behavior on several of the large sites I monitor. So far this month, each one has gotten anywhere from 800-1000 new pages added to the index each day. Granted, the stuff falls out of the index a day or two later, but we know Google has the data and it'll start showing for good on the next update. Google is going very deep this month. Stuff I'm seeing crawled in our directory, for example, is so deep that it's 8-12 clicks into the site - stuff no one has likely ever seen before and stuff that I'd never even hope to have crawled. (I spent most of the weekend scurrying around and optimizing and fixing the two year old code in our Cre8asite Store because of the fact that once this gets ranked, it's likely going to actually bring live people in there.

There's other evidence showing that another prediction I made a year or so ago is going to come true with this update (or at least in some update in the not-too-distant future.) That prediction was that Google would start letting pages hang out in their index for longer than a month. In the past, with each update, Google would wipe the slate clean and then put in only the pages that were picked up on this crawl. From time to time, though, we've seen them experimenting with leaving some pages in the index that were crawled last month, but that they didn't get a chance to hit this month.

For some evidence, try this Google Search and make note of the extra element I made magically appear up by the search box. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on this. In and of itself, it doesn't mean much, but combined with the crawl behavior I'm seeing, it speaks volumes.

There's more evidence, but it's mostly circumstantial, so I won't go into it at this point.

Normally I could care less when the PR update occurs, but I'm looking forward to some interesting stuff happening this time around. Can only hope and wait!
