Because whatever extension you're using is obviously useless!

I don't care about this but I'm just curious.

I have the SEO for Chrome extension on my Chrome browser, which has a "In DMOZ? y/n" stat that on inspection performs a site:dmoz.org http://www.example.com OR http://example.com  search.

I noticed that for my site, the answer returned is NO

(site:dmoz.org http://www.domain.co.uk OR http://domain.co.uk)

.... but it IS in DMOZ. It's been there for as long as Highrankings.com has been around!

So, how does that happen?

Because a site: search looks for on-page text. It isn't looking for the URL unless the URL appears on the page. If you search for [site:dmoz.org "site name"] it works.
