We have a Wordpress directory/shop website with 1,500+ products in it. I would like to know the best way to go about naming the products SEO-wise.

We did have the following setup…

Brand name Product Name | Sitename
Brand name Product Name | Sitename
Brand name Product Name | Sitename
Brand name Product Name | Sitename

But changed that to 'Product Name by Brand Name' as it's a lot easier for the user to find what they are looking for when viewing the products in a grid format. It takes a lot longer to find it if you're having to read the brand name first every time.

We're using the Wordpress SEO by Yoast plugin which also lets us set an SEO name and I was wondering if it's best to change it around for SEO reasons.

Would it be better to name the SEO title like so…

Brandname Product Name wedding dress | Sitename i.e.

Benjamin Roberts Bella wedding dress | Sitename
Justin Alexander W1278 wedding dress | Sitename

Can anyone shed some light on this please.

Thanks

" SEO name" and "SEO title"  == COMPLETE CRAP!

Following the generic and most often INCORRECT 'advice' from 'Plugins' is more likely to get your page DROPPED by search engines because it demonstrates perfectly that the page has been "optimised" for bots rather than created with users in mind.

There is no convention seo-wise, the only convention is the one that suites your business and the one that works wonder.

I once did on-page SEO optimization for an online bag shop, every product was different as I needed to create keywords variation. I used mixture of brand names, product names, colours, adjectives and verbs such as cheap, buy, quality etc and also particular attribute common to those product which searchers are like to use when searching for such products.... Including your sitename will make the Meta title too long and is irrelevant unless it's your brand.

1500+ product is whole lot but to give each product a fair chance of ranking high, they have to be seo-optimized on-page.
