I'm currently working on the rankings of an online car rental bookings business in New Zealand and was wondering what a bunch of more experienced SEO's thought about the competitiveness of this market in regard to search engines rankings.

The obvious key phrases that are being searched on are New Zealand car rental, New Zealand car hire, car rental New Zealand, car hire New Zealand and in the major cities and airports for similar type phrases.

I have run a few campaigns and am finding this industry particularly more competitive.

Any comments would be great.

Any travel related service is a competitive field. However, car hire is one of the less optimized fields inside of travel. Outside the US and using terms outside of "car rental" which it appears you are already working on is a big help.
