My old site used to refer my www.domain.com to my domain.com. I hired a new SEO firm who convinced me to also let them do a new site. According to the Google analytics my Organic traffic is down since the switch. The SEO firm tells me it is actually up because:

"www.domain.com was considered a referral source for domain.com . They are one and the same site. So, that traffic dropped off 50% because that referral source is gone now. That was one of the problems we solved with the new site. They are now one and the same and Google no longer considers them 2 sites. This is a common issue in SEO. Google "juice" is split in half between 2 sites and it should be consolidated in to one."

Is this accurate?

Possibly, what do your site logs tell you?

It sounds like they changed the content on your Website.  Did they remove all the old pages, or just some of them?  if so, did they implement 301-status redirects?  What else have they done?

Even if you don't know SEO you should still have a report from them showing the work they have done for you.  You should be able to tie that work to lost traffic, increased traffic, no change, etc.

It's not like every change is going to produce a result, but if you have lost substantial traffic you should see if you can rule out any changes they have made as possible causes for lost traffic.  You'll have to share more information than what you have here in order for us to give you good feedback.
