I was asked toady to come up with three things that will help rankings.

They think it's something simple to do, but I keep telling them rankings are not easy to come by, after all

so many things go into actually doing this for a site. They are very stubborn and uninformed.

What three things can I tell them I am going to do that might satisfy them?

Here are the three things I have in mind of what I want to tell them.

How about three things that help targeted traffic (including traffic acquired through improved rankings), and just for fun, we'll make them three Cs.

  1. Content: unique, well-written content that provides information people are looking for.
  2. Canonicalization: one and only one location where that content can be found, so there's no confusion or cannibalization of traffic (two bad Cs).
  3. Citations: people (especially people who are authorities on the kind of information you're providing) recommending your content, linking to it, telling their social media followers about it.

It's not good that you are asking people on a forum to do your job for you. Are you sure you should be in the position you are in?

Having someone do SEO who has no understanding of it is what gets websites in big trouble.

On the contrary, "rankings" are extremely easy to come by, you simply don't have to be trying to get them for specific phrases.
