We are taking over an existing .com. We are going to be making a major change to the url’s. Currently the url’s include product brand names and product names. We are no longer going to show either of these on the site, and so they will not appear in the url—instead we will just show an item # in the url.

The .com has been live for many years and has built up some degree of SEO ranking. What is the best strategy to retain as much as possible the existing SEO ranking?
