I used to have several pages show up in the SERPS for certain keywords, for example the index page and a sub-page also optimised for the same keyword. Now I only get the sub-page showing up. Has Google stopped showing multiple pages from a site for a particular search query, and instead has decided to show only the main one they consider to be the most relevant?

It depends on the query and how relevant all the pages within the site are for that query. Also, I imagine it would depend on how many other authoritative sites have highly relevant pages.

It certainly doesn't work the same way as it used to, with one result, a second indented result, then a "More results from this site" link.

It now works that you may get several results from the same site listed just the same way as any other listing, i.e. no indents, or you may only get one listing where before you had indented listings. The rules have changed.

I thought I had posted this, but maybe I didn't ... unless it got moved? I wanted to address a related issue ...

Would you recommend creating backlinks to individual landing pages or just to the home page in the hope that the home page will pass rank to all the landing pages anyway?

Individual landing pages when appropriate, home page when appropriate.
