Hi

I have heard that having your press release being picked up and placed on a popular media website with links to your website can really help with SEO. And if so why are media websites so good for SEO?

What can help is having your press release seen by an actual member of the press, who then chooses to write an original article about you that links to your site. But links from the release itself, at least according to Google, should be nofollowed.

Ok. Thank you very much for clarifying. Can I still ask why if a journalist wrote an article or my business was on a current affair program and they had links to my website, how does it influence the SEO?

Because incoming links from reputable sites are one of the ranking factors that Google and other search engines take into account. Maybe you should consider taking a look at our newbie tips to learn more about what goes in to good SEO.

Great. Thanks for the responses. I hope you don't mind that my post was for my university assessment. And I appreciate the replies. If I ever need help with SEO though in the future, I will definitely come here for help.
