Differentiating Ppc & Natural Seo In Rank Reports
Posted 25 March 2004 - 10:18 AM
There's two of us in my company doing Internet marketing. One does ppc campaigns. The other does natural seo. The boss wants to see which is more effective. I'm trying to find a ranking report that tracks placement but differentiates between ppc and natural seo source. Do you of you know of one that does that. I've found several that are very good at tracking, but none that produce that difference in an easy way.
Thanks for your help with this one.

Then, when someone hits your thank-you page, you can see whether it came from one of your PPC ads or not. This can be done with quite a few reasonably priced stats programs. Check out the stats forum to find out more.

No matter what solution you use, you need to put the tracking codes on the URLs. Do that now and see if your current logs can then track them for you.
You should be fine, and you can also use Google's own conversion tracking code for even more reporting features.

To clarify, the tracking codes are added to your PPC ads. A common format for this is to ad something like this to the end of the URL you're sending your visitor to from a given ad:
I'll be putting tracking codes on the needed pages from now on. Thanks for your advice!
The visitor will still reach the same page but you'll now know that the visitor came from an Overture you've tags as your 'footballs' ad.
