I was wondering, what percentage of the marketing budget should and SEO be paid?  For example, if the Owner does the selling and the web design, what percent of the marketing contract should go to the SEO?  40%?  60%?  80%?  Any ideas?

0 - 100% depending on the business and the marketing plan.

Thanks, Jill.  The Owner of the company will be selling and developing the websites.  The SEO would then come in and market the websites.  In this case, would a 60/40 split be reasonable (with 60% going to the SEO)?

Impossible to say. A good chunk should probably be spent on Paid Search as well. Probably more than SEO.

Yeah, I'm talking SEO, SEM, SMM, PPC, PR, etc. etc.  But, my question is: would that be a fair compensation arrangement between the Owner and the Digital Marketing Specialist?

I do see what you're saying, Jill - and thanks for the input :).  I guess I was thinking 60% would go to the marketing budget and the PPC would come from that.  But, I will probably have to break it down more.

Isn't SEO part of the marketing budget?

My referrals get 10% monthly kickback on my fee.  My fee is separate to the design fee.
