Now that the schema markup for Organization includes an itemprop for logo, and Google may use it in the SERP, I want to start using it. However, my company adds logos to pages as a background image, so it's only listed in the CSS rather than the markup of the pages where it appears. In fact, there are some pages on which the logo is just a section of a larger background image. And I don't mean a sprite. It's one big image with the logo in the top-left corner.

Do you think that's going to be a problem, or can I add markup just for the schema code rather than adding the schema code to the HTML that's already present?

Probably best to use the meta tag Bob, to refer to a consistent, logo-sized logo throughout the site.
