I noticed today in Webmaster Tools in the 'Who Links To You Most' section the following entry at the top:-

example.com with over 5000 links.

I can't work out what that would be or why, but it seems spammy to me.

Any idea what's happening?

You should be able to see the specific pages of that domain that link to you by clicking further into things.

I don't really understand them, if I click on the domain in Webmaster Tools I get a list of pages of my site with a proceeding /

such as /example.htm

If I click on those there's an odd URL that looks a bit like this:-

www.web(somenumbers).vs.weirddomain.com/example.htm

It's difficult to explain without posting the actual links, I've never heard of [removed]?

The name of the site you're seeing isn't relevant. Click the name of the site that's linking in your WMT account and you'll see all the actual URLs where your link allegedly is. Then you can visit those pages to see if there's really a link and what it's all about.
