Hello all

Firt day at school. Got an apple but dont know who to give it to.

I have had a website that I live on from 1999.

It has evolved a lot since the first attempt. I made lots of mistakes along the way but was always proud of my efforts. The first attempt was realy basic, full of ugly colour, drop down shadow etc. However, in that firs year I was more than happy with the revenue the site produced. (I rent villas in Spain) My first attempt I knew nothing about optimisation, in fact the title, keywords and content tags were in the "BODY" section of the page. I had lots of picturea (and still do) which made it slow. I knew nothing (and still dont) about writing keyword rich text but people still found it.

I paid for an inclusion on Yahoo but thats all.

I woke up, late last year and decided to clean things up a bit (the site). I read till my eyes hurt and digested. By late January 04 I was #10 on Google and Pos #11 on Yahoo for my best keyword (very competitive "HOLIDAYS IN SPAIN")

All looked good and i was reciving lot of hits.

THEN I MADE A BIG MISTAKE.

Not knowing enough about SPAM I got another site going, same name as the old one without the hyphens, same host. BANG, my site was gone.

Realising my mistake (and I didnt spam intentionally) I deleted all the pages of my new site. Within 3 weeks I was comming back, Google 40 etc.

My point is...maybe you have some people who use this site that are like me, and like we all where at one time, novices.

My friend told me to put my site back to the way it was when I started. All I had to do was add new properties when they came up, take bookings and take my small boat out onto the Med. Now I spend hours chasing that pot of gold at the rainbows end (GOOGLE PAGE 1)

AND I ENJOY EVERY MOMENT

I use to dream that I would live in Spain and earn my living on the internet, Iīm possibly lucky, my dreams came true. Its never too late.

Comments apriciated (sorry for SpeLliNg)

Welcome Malcolm !

Life is good when a plan comes together, isn't it? It's always fun to hear the success stories, in fact it's what drives me to do what I do.

FYI, I removed the live link to your site per the Forum Guidelines. Feel free to create a Signature via the My Controls link at the top and add it there if you would like.

I share a similar dream and started up a website called skijobs.net back in 98. I made it into the top 10 and was getting some good traffic flow. Unfortunately I had a bit of a problem getting businesses to advertise their jobs on my site so I eventually sold it. I then got sucked into MLM/ network marketing and wasted a lot of time and energy trying to make money in what I now know is a very messed up and unfair industry.
Just recently I started my website for villa holidays in the Algarve Portugal and am making good progress from this. I hope one day soon to acheive my goal of Ģ20 a day in labour free income. This is enough for me to travel freely and enjoy a life most people have no idea is possible for them.

Shoot for the moon and you will reach the stars.

I admire your optimimism but 20 a day seems a little high.

Tip...

When I started I aimed for a cheese roll a day.

This was too high a target.

So...

I cut the roll in half and it lasted 2 days.
This way I never went hungry, well almost.

Now I have a cheese and ham bagget with lettuice and mayo. Sorry to rub it in but life is that good.

Malcolm I am already getting half a role a day. The cheese and ham bagget with lettuice and mayo will come soon. Glad to here you are so happy. Im jumping ship (england) tomorrow either way.

On a side note I am aware of quite a lot of Spanish holiday websites making rapid progress. Be careful you don't get washed out to sea.
