Hi Jill and guys,

Do you think that exchanging links with sites that are in the same topic as my site, can provide some SEO benefits?

Thanks!

Assaf

Yes, adds seo bennefits say compared to not exchanging links. Its not the best way to spend your time, but does have a little bennefit.. people may say its bad, can cause penalties, but im yet to see that. The other argument is that they are discounted, again.. ive seen no evidence that reciprocals are totally ignored.. there is a slight bennefit when mixed with one way ibl's.

Depends on what you think SEO is.

If you are of the opinion that SEO is just getting "rankings" NO they aren't

if however, you are of the opinion that "Optimising" is about improving conversions then they might just be the best links you get.

Agree with this, pure value SEO and rank building it's not necessarily valuable(in fact it's marginal), however the conversations and reliability factor by partnering with other sites creates reputability and trust between your site and real people(not bots) see that.

At the end of the day, if the link exchange is not done in the typical way, it has been manipulated, then link exchange is beneficial. What has happened over the years is that link exchange is an SEO technique has been abused.

Webmasters created links and partners page and then would perform link exchange on these pages. It was a way to earn links but a user who would visit such pages wouldn't understand what the hell was this. It is due to this that Google decided to take action and abhor link exchange activities.

But it would make perfect sense in the event that a link exchange has been done to enhance the value to users. For eg. If you are a website that is selling antiques and if you link to a site or blog that deals with antique restoration or preservation, it makes perfect sense to the user because it goes with the theme.

Similarly the other site too can link back to you and this kind of link exchange enhances the user experience and is hence good. Problem arises when people create link exchange pages for the sake of it and then do link exchange with cheap, low quality websites or pages that have been created for the very purpose.

So you need to decide, would the site I would be linking to provide my user value and vice versa for the website linking back to you. If the answer is yes, go ahead but if it is no, then don't indulge in it.
