Hi,
I have a client that is wanting to focus on other countries. Mainly Germany..
I've never done this and my concerns are the language. Would i need a site written in German?
What about hosting, is it better to host a site in the country your targeting?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

There is obviously more chance of a German language URL being shown to German search users who are searching using German words or phrases.

A document that talks about 'schnitzengruben' is more likely to be shown than one that talks about 'sausage' (see Blazing Saddles for reference)

Not as much as it used to be. IPs do not necessarily resolve to the location of the server, they resolve to the country that the registered 'owners' offices are in.

If the customers are German, then if coure the site needs to be written in German. I would have thought that was fundamental.

If it is your job to develop the content for the site, you'd better find someone who you can subcontract that to, bei allen Geschwindigkeiten. Do that before you start worrying about URLs and hosting.

Thanks for the replies..

'I would have thought that was fundamental.' Not really, according to the client there are many USA Mustangs in Germany. And they have to order from USA to get parts..

But i've already told them they should look for someone in Germany for best results. I see the language barrier being a big problem for me.
Thanks again

I don't know what a "USA Mustang" is, but I stand by my point. It doesn't matter that they are ordering from the USA. If the customer is German, then the site should be in German. Always remember: The language of business is the language of the customer.

Thanks, Torka. Good to learn something new (not that it affects the point I was trying to make, of course).
