We are seeing versions of our xml sitemaps appear in 2nd and 3rd position for searches like this:
faith lutheran case study company name
I can see if we searched using site: but having the xml sitemap appear with such high ranking is really not what we're after.
Is there a way to block this from appearing in serps but still allow the xml sitemap to be indexed?
Thanks
Rosemary

Why do you want it to be indexed?

I used the wrong word Jill, I didn't mean indexed. I meant for the search engines to be able to read.
When we create these sitemaps we upload them into GWMTs. And then they are getting automatically indexed.
