Hi All,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

I have an ecommerce website, selling lots of products. I recently had a new version of the site developed using Magento (old site was oscommerce).

The developer switched over to the new site without making or initiating a list of redirects and frankly I am struggling with how I should handle this. I am now getting loads of 404s.

Has anyone got any idea on how I can now get a list of all the old URLs with some value from the old version of my site so I can begin to look at getting them redirected to the correct pages on the new site?

What tools if any would I be best using here?

Its turning into a real pain and any help would be greatly appreciated.

1: Check your site logs for URIs that are being requested and give a 404 response, then redirect those, Those are the useful ones with a REAL value.

2: Run a

site:domain.tld

search at Google and Yahoo!/Bing to see what old URIs are still indexed and redirect those. The "value" of those URIs is in them being an entry point to the site for SEs to discover the rest of the new navigational structure.

3: If you can find external links to your URIs, make a request the operator/webmaster if the hrefs can be changed to point to the new URIs.

4: Repeat step one every month or so.

Ah, A brilliant answer.

I'll check the logs to see what they show, and check each moth as you say.

I did check site: domian, but shows 44,000 + results and I wanted to see the pages that have value / are being requested - so looking at the log files is a top answer.

Webmaster tools is showing a load of not founds, but don't want to be trawling through lots of unnecessary work.
