I have a client that wants to redirect all their non-www traffic as follows:

http://mysite.com redirects to: http://www.mysite.com

They have already identified the www version in GWMTs as their primary domain.

When I asked why they were doing this they said that websites generally link to the non-www version.

Do we really need to do this anymore? Will this mess up anything if they also have pages at say http://info.mysite.com

Isn't Google already doing a good job of passing link popularity for these two versions?

Thanks Jill, now I'm confused, that wasn't difficult was it. Please can you explain what the Plus side is of doing it and the Downside of not doing it.

Typically I don't bother with it, but there's another thread here somewhere where Ron Carnell made some good points about not relying on search engines to "get it right" that sort of thing.

The simple answer is if you have a preference; redirect.

If you don't; let the SEs decide which to show.
