I am re-writing my sales page and want to put an honest number on it of the number of pages we have that are indexed by Google.
By my own calculation, we have about 5000 pages of content. But when I query Google it tells me it has over 8000 indexed pages! Am I using the right query?
Thanks,
Terri Z

Try it again tomorrow. It will probably tell you something completely different.

The site:command is notoriously broken. Instead use this custom google analytics report I created. It shows which pages of your site are indexed which actually bring you traffic.
Hope this helps!

Thank you! I didn't understand until I scrolled down that there was actually a report there that I could just click on! What an awesome feature of Google Analytics. And awesome of you to share it, Jill.
I got my answer...indexed pages that get traffic (over the past year) was about 3000. That is what Webmaster Tools told me too; I just thought it was limited by what I had in my sitemap. Although I should check that anyway.
Jill, you rock, as always!
