I am running into a weird issue with what Google Webmaster Tools is picking up as keywords on my site. I have a few that are odd little codes like z03 or m02. When I click through to the links GWT provides for where it is getting them, they are not to be found.

Here's the screenshot from GWT: http://bit.ly/JEqzF1

Here are the links it says are causing these:
http://bit.ly/L3jPNf
http://bit.ly/LR8XkC

These are normally reached by clicking "See the piece" here: http://bit.ly/Kmbf0l

Sorry for all the short urls, but I am concerned that if my company name was in the pasted urls, it might show up in the SERPs when people google it, and I'd rather not have them gunked. Is that a legit concern?

Could those be image searches? Usually when I see weird stuff, that's what it is.

Hmmm. Image searches? I'm not sure how that scenario would unfold to put these keywords in my list.

Chris wouldn't it be weird for Google WMT to be picking up referral spam?

Jill, I know you addressed that question to Chris, but wouldn't that depend on Google reliably and accurately recognising referral spam for what it is.

Yes. Which I thought they had the ability to do, but perhaps not as well as they should?

As with many things Google related.

But if the pages are using Google analytics there could well be some crossover. And I'm sure we have all seen some strange queries that carry a search referrer with some very odd words, I know I certainly have.

It's Flash. Just type in "z03" and "m02" on Google and you find his site. It's not referral spam. GWT is working the way it should be.

Hmmm. So any further clarity on what might be causing this? If there is a way I can get rid of it, that would be great.
