I was curious if anyone had an idea on which is the best search engine to do a search for backlinks? (I mean just a general search for any site even if it does not belong to you.) Does google tend to show the most important pages that link to a site? Or does yahoo show a more comprehensive listing? I think for both of these ones, you can search just by typing in link:domain.com for any domain. Or is there some other tool or better way to see more of the sites that link to a particular website?

Nope they show a random selection that may or may be of any use whatsoever. Which is most likely to be latter.Does google tend to show the most important pages that link to a site?
Counting links will tell you nothing of any use whatsoever.
