BUT how would this work?

I've assumed it will work based on related searches..

I.E. site about bad breath would contain articles for each of the related searches.

Simple, No "SEO" at all is FAR FAR better than letting some clueless numptie destroy your pages with "stupid SEO" while "targetting you most impotrant keywrods" ^sic

"No SEO at all" is certainly Google's goal. But they're not quite there yet. They are for longtail terms, however.

They have got this update so wrong though, it is unbelievably bad. They are punishing sites that have no seo, while allowing pure black hat stuff to rank.

Still they are now in such a position of power there is nothing anyone can do to stop them.

yes there are loads of complaints the biggest being the results for the term 'make money online' where an empty blog is #1

take a look at the backlink profiles of some of the pages in that result (not naming names for obvious reasons) but they are spamtastic

I think we must wait for few days more for Google to tune up a bit more their algorithms. This looks as the worst Google Update since now ...

Regarding the sample above with the python hosting, it looks like Google set lot of power back to the URL and domain name as long as white page with 2 letters on it can rank so high

They'll get this sorted out, I'm sure.

Given that this update was about spam and not about quality, I think people need to cut them some slack. The quality team will have to come in and re-evaluate the SERPs after the spam has dropped out. That's probably the way it has always worked, or maybe for a long time.

I see nothing to be concerned about.

This could be the reason for being placed on the 3rd place:

Seems that it had content in March.

PR of the site is 6 and it has 850 sites linking to it according to alexa, so the authority is good enough to be placed on the 3rd place. Probably before the Google update it was on the 1st position.

Shows you that no matter what, links and exact match domains will always trump.

I believe what was previously referred to as an over optimization penalty is really just one that means if you keyword stuffed, you'll lose rankings. Which is good, but I wish they'd go farther and remove the EMDs and bad links.

"Florida" was definitely the worst of all of them. Google went waaaay over the top with that one. I remember there was practically a lynch mob at SES Chicago that year. It was kinda scary.

The site was previously banned from Google which is why the guy dropped it. Google have put it back on top without content

I think Black Monday was the worst/best of all search algorithm updates. "Florida" meant nothing compared to that.
