I've been working hard to get my site to rank for a keyword in which the google Adwods tool claims there are over 27,000 monthly searches for. I am now #6 for this keyword. I am now getting about 250 monthly visitors from this keyword. Does this sound right? This means less than 1% of search users are clicking on the #6 site.

I have the site title and the meta description set up with the keyword also so users know what the site is about before they click (which is what they just searched for).

So does this number sound kind of low?

Thanks

Are you looking at global monthly search data or local data?

Are you #6 everywhere in the world or even everywhere for your own region? Or for just a few blocks around where you are?

Are you being effected by personalised searches? Do other people see you as #6?

Does your listing look good especially compared to the rest of the search result? Or are you competing with adverts, shopping, images, places, authors, news, videos and rich snippets that drown out your own listing?

Does #6 show above the fold or is it way down the page?

A better way to find true monthly searches is to buy some AdWords for that keyword and check out the impressions.

Also, you can look into search impression/click data via Google Webmaster Tools. This also tells you your average position and can give you a clue if your getting a bad CTR.

I'm #6 from home, from work, and from my phone (G has no way to tell I'm the same person)

I'm not sure if I'm #6 if searching from across the country. How can I find out?

Are you sure you were looking at exact searches with the kw tool?

That doesn't answer my question. It sounds like you are using broad match, rather than exact, which would explain your discrepancy.

You are correct. Exact is 2900 searches per month.

That sounds more reasonable. About 10% of what they say.

Yeah man pay absolutely no attention to broad or even phrase match numbers. And consider these figures are from the past 12 months. So seasonal keywords have their ups and downs.

I would be interested to know the KW phrase
