New Domain - 404 Not Found

I bought a very old domain with many links pointing to it.
Many of these links (including for example the one from DMoz) are pointing to pages that do not exist anymore of course.
I installed wordpress CMS in the website, and following these links will show 404 error, a seach bar etc ..
is redirecting the 404 page to the homepage a good idea ? or is it better this way ?
Thanks

But there are too many of them ..
isn't a 301 redirect to 404 pages better ?
or do you suggest that I redirect important links to specific pages ?
301 redirect them to whatever page is closest to the one they were previously.

Thanks a lot
Never 30- redirect to a 404. You could leave the 404s but it would be better to redirect them to something. If necessary, then yeah, just redirect to the home page. (don't 404 the to home page however).
