Is it possible to find out who the SEO people are behind a company on the net? Reason I am asking is, when deciding who to choose for your SEO work, I am thinking it would be logical to go to the google's no.1 page, choose any company in the top 3 listings and have their SEO people do your work? Thing is, how to find out the name of the people doing their SEO work, would it be ethical to contact that company to ask?

well, if you don't ask you'll probably never find out.

Ok but would you agree or disagree that this would be a good way to go about getting proper SEO people to work for you?

Rankings mean very very little, pages can be there by accident.

If you are a member of a local business organization, it may be better for you to ask people you know for references. An SEO's successful work generates good word-of-mouth references.
