Hi, after waiting for 2 month for my PR (0) to update last night it finally happened on two of my sites, now they have PR4 and PR5. The backlink data they have used for this update of PR seems to be a few weeks old, because some of the backlinks are not there anymore or there are new ones not listed.

My question to you: I hoped to get besser search results with higher PR, but it seems not to have any influence by now to any of my keywords

My most important keyword "heimarbeit" on my site which is listed in my profile disappeared totally from Google after this PR update, after it had been back for a few weeks at positon 250 or so. Does anybody know what that could have to do with?

Hi. I'm definitely not an SEO expert, nor an expert on the occurences at Google, but I can tell you that I've seen Google do some pretty weird stuff from time to time.

I was doing some SEO for a client one time, and I checked our rankings. For a long time we'd been in the 20s, but that particular morning when I checked our rankings, we were at #3--completely out of the blue, for no apparent reason. It was almost like we wished ourself to the #3 position.

I called my client and told him to type this particular keyword in at google, which was definitely the "money" keyword for his website, and he saw that we were at the #3 position. So he called a bunch of associates to show them the good news, and a few queries later we were back in the 20s again.

True story, I swear. The point is that there's some weird stuff going on at Google, as near as I can tell. I wouldn't get too worried about what you're describing here... unless you're doing some serious spamming (and you just got caught).

Gregg

Hi greggb, thanks for your answer. Now I am a bit more relaxed and the rest of the day I will sit down and think myself to #1 ;) hope it works like your #3 wish, just a little longer. Have a great day!

Google is trying at least 6 new algorithm changes each month from now on, so expect lots of changes ;)

i am sure that i have read somewhere on this forum that although google wont always show you all its link data and pagerank with regards to your site, it itself has already registered any changes. so it may be that google was already taking all your backlinks into accoutn, its just that you couldnt see your amount of links and page rank. i may be wrong though ...

That's interesting, magellan. What's your source for that information (or does everyone already know this and I've been reading in the wrong places)?

Yes it was said by Matt Cutts in the webmasterworld pub conference,

i cannot find an authoritive source but you can read an overview of the conference here,

Some of his speech touched on improving the algorithms for search, saying that Google would be employing half a dozen or so different algorithms EACH month!

i have just checked and our page rank too has been recalculated but the same as you polaris, the data is not up to date. many links from pages with high enough pagerank to show (these links show for other sites) have not been registered. just have to wait until next time i guess!

i beleive google guy once said in the webmaster world forums that an increased PR simply increases the liklihood that googlebot will visit your site and that once the bot is visitng frequently (read daily) you really dont need to worry that much about PR anymore.
