Hi There-

I am a marketer by trade but have been learning some RegEx. I have figured out all but one step of the goal set I need. The ugly urls I have to work with are these:

Step 1: subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?u=db1227

Step 2: subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?s=&usergroup=US&order=06f99883-7a1e-4d30-ab43-bf746271c6b5&step=summary

Step 3: subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?s=&usergroup=US&order=06f99883-7a1e-4d30-ab43-bf746271c6b5&step=payment

Step 4: subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?s=&usergroup=US&order=06f99883-7a1e-4d30-ab43-bf746271c6b5&step=receipt

With steps 2, 3 & 4, I can use step=summary, step=payment and step=receipt respectively in RegEx GA goal set up and they work fine. Its Step 1 I am having problems with.

Step 1 can include any number of the following string iteration types:

subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?u=&s=
subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?u=us&s=
subdomain.mydomain.com/folder/US/register.aspx?u=14-us&s=

I have tried multiple iterations but cannot get it to work when I put it in the pages report under content to test. I am offering two free drinks on me at the next SEMNE meeting in Framingham if they can come up with a Regex that works.

Thanks,

DJKay

You know I'd do just about anything for free drinks, DJkay, but I don't even know what Regex is. Plus I won't be at the next SEMNE event as I'll be in Hawaii! suntan.gif

Good for you Jill! We will miss you! RegEx stands for regular expressions, its the third option after exact and head match in Google Analytics. I have talked to my IT department until I am blue in the face but to no avail.

So..like I said, I will buy you two free drinks at the next SEMNE meeting in Framingham.

Thanks, DJKay

Well -- I just found out that because we use something called "negative look up" GA regular expressions don't necessarily work for us. So I am just going to have to wait until they apply the program I had them develop to create fake urls which show up in GA and can be used in exact match.

Oh, you're talking about Google Analytics. I don't think you mentioned that anywhere. I'll move this to the Analytics forum.

Can you show us what you have so far.

My guess would be:

1:
/folder/US/register\.aspx\?u=.*

2:
/folder/US/register\.aspx\?.*step=summary

3:
/folder/US/register\.aspx\?.*step=payment

4:
/folder/US/register\.aspx\?.*step=receipt

Hi - Thanks for the try - they don't work. I put them into the search under the pages report in the content section and they are not yielding anything.

Tiggerito - They work. Thanks a bunch. I am very excited. One caveat I want to throw out, the mistake I was making was not going to the section withing the pages report that says "advanced filter". This feels like a new GA feature but I don't know. Then you need to make sure you match the pull down to "matching Regex' expression.

Thanks DJKay
