My first post here but as I continue to tackle the SEO beast im sure there will be plenty more.

My site example.com has been up for around a year 1/2 now and I recently redesigned it in the last month, making all urls seo friendly and set up about 15 301 redirects. Im suffering dearly traffic wise at the moment for this but have read a lot and all seems normal considering. (Wish i read more before hand, would have never done it)

My question:
Google shows "example.com/services.html?99e173b0" when using site:example.com and It returns a 301 header.

services.html is 301 redirected to air-conditioning-repair-service.html via .htaaccess but never been any dynamic pages on this server ever. Is this normal while 301's are transferring rank etc or is something wrong?

Maybe a tracking code from somewhere but without more info, it's impossible to tell you anything.


And by the way, so called "SEO friendly" URLs are not anywhere near as "SEO friendly" as people assume.

Thanks for the reply as I just planned on leaving it alone and thought google would sort it out at some point, what information would help determine the issue? The problem page has a 0 page rank and doesn't necessarily need to be 301 redirected. Do you think I would be better off just removing the redirect from services.html so it returns a 404 and use googles "Remove URL" to remove both. I only find this page in Google and not in Bing or Yahoo. There was a really screwed up contact page before that was different for screen resolutions in case you were wondering about the redirects lol.

Well now that I know this is not normal I did some looking around and found in Webmaster tools under URL Parameters there was 99e173b0 monitoring 2 urls and set to let googlebot decide its effect on content. I changed it to One Representaive URL.

This should take care of the problem right?

Theoretically it should. But in practice, it might not.

Thanks Jill, hopefully to get this done right the first time I attched 3 screen shots, One of my current Parameter Settings and the 2 options I have to try and rid this from google search results.
Im hoping you will take a look for me and see If you think I chose the best route in doing so.

Unfortunately, they don't have the "ignore" parameter anymore, which is really the one you need. I think you've done it as best as you can, but like I said, Google doesn't necessarily obey their own directives.

Just wanted to reply back and say thanks and that is already gone. Now if google would just finish updating my last few 301's it would be great.
