Phone Number On The Description Tag?
Posted 12 December 2011 - 12:26 PM
After many months of SEO work, I've managed to put one of my websites on 1st position (organically) for some important keywords such as:
<City> plumbing services
<City> Plumbing Repair
<City> Plumbing Installation
(for very important cities)
(me, and many other people have confirmed the 1st positions are there always, it doesn't matter where they searched from).
I've managed to put my website above the local results, it wasnt an easy task, but still my traffic has not increased importantly. I am SURE these phrases bring traffic.
I believe a % of people just sees the local results and calls the phone numbers in there, and that is the reason why I am not receiving any extra visitors, or maybe they just prefer the local listings. If that's the case, and the percentage of people just calling directly from the local ads is very high, would it help to put my phone number on the meta description? Does anyone know what can be the problem? Maybe my result is not appealing enough?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks in advance,
Most people don't realize that the vast majority of searchers DO NOT CLICK ON THE FIRST LISTING. Everyone has been taught to think "Number 1 ranking! Number 1 ranking!" but searchers aren't all looking for the same thing.
If the search engine is injecting local listings into the organic queries for which you are optimizing, you really want to be included in those listings because the searchers are being conditioned by those results to expect them and look for them.
That said, you should experiment with including your phone number in your listing because no one can really tell you what will work best for you.
