Hello,
We have a wordpress blog on our website and we recently installed wordpress plugin that generates sitemap automatically for wordpress. We also have main sitemap for entire website that is located on root. Do 2 sitemaps cause problem for search engines?
www.domain.com/sitempa.xml (entire sitemap)
www.domain.com/blog/sitemap.xml (wordpress sitemap)

No it's fine. It can even be a good idea to submit multiple site maps thru your webmaster tools and get better info on crawl errors.

OK Jill. Thank you. I was afraid that search engines will treat those two different websites because of multiple sitemaps even though they are on same domain.

If you're using multiple sitemaps and want to use your robots.txt file for sitemap discovery, you can create a file that lists your sitemaps and post its URL in robots.txt. Search engines will access that file and find your other sitemaps through it. Think of it as a sitemap sitemap.

Qwerty, thanks for the heads up on using robots text for sitemap discovery. i will definitely be using this for my blog sites.
Question: would this also be a good idea if I had a forum?
If the forum is o a sub domain it would obviously be able to list its own sitemap.xml
regards G
