"Page rank doesn't affect rankings. It only affects how often Google crawls our sites."
True or false?

Do you mean PageRank (one word)? Because page rank is not the same thing (that's how one ranks in the search results).
Presuming you mean PageRank, real PageRank (not toolbar) does effect rankings, yes. The more popular Google believes a site to be, the more weight they will give it when determining its relevancy to searcher's queries.
PageRank does also affect a sites rate of crawling since Google wants to be sure to crawl the more popular sites and pages more deeply and more often.

That's what I thought. This was an audio I was listening to so I don't know if they mean real PageRank or if they were referring to toolbar.

Unfortunately, many people think they're one and the same. Toolbar PR really doesn't tell you much of anything.
