This is very old post by "Scottie"-Is Frequent Spidering Important? and here is reply from jill "We don't need fresh content to rank well, and you don't need the spiders to visit often to rank well". Is it still true or its changed because its very old post.

It's still true. Frequent respidering, is just that, frequent respidering. It's not a ranking mechanism. Old content that gets respidered, isn't going to somehow rank higher because of it.

Frequent spidering that isn't required to document newly published content can be a drain on resources. Some Web hosting services block major search engine spiders to manage bandwidth.
