It's still true. Frequent respidering, is just that, frequent respidering. It's not a ranking mechanism. Old content that gets respidered, isn't going to somehow rank higher because of it.

Frequent spidering that isn't required to document newly published content can be a drain on resources. Some Web hosting services block major search engine spiders to manage bandwidth.
