Hi ..

I was having great time (vacations)
coming back, I saw that one of my websites lost almost 50% of its traffic

now comparing the average from before 21 July and after .. I think I ost almost 75% traffic ..

And about 85% is from search engines ..



any ideas about what happened ?

what I didn't understand, its that I'm still ranked for the "big keywords" I'm targeting .. these keywords still drive the usual traffic , but the traffic from inner pages somehow dropped , I'm not getting visitors to inner pages ..

don't know I'm really confused ..

Here is an estimation , the "big keywords" I'm targeting are bringing like 500 UV / day .. and the average traffic is like 2k / day ..

after 21 July , I'm still getting the 500 UV from the "big keywords" but the overall traffic is about 600 - 700 ..

I'm confused ..

Sounds like you need to have someone audit your analytics to figure out what might be happening. If it is a Panda thing, there's not much you can do but try to make your site be the best it can be for your users and hope for the best.

That's probably because you think "rank checking" is a useful exercise, and you think that only one page needs promoting.

Who told you that those pages aren't promoted ?

Well that has been the cause of such symptoms for the last ten years or so, regardless of updates.


So how much "link building" do you for pages other than the "home" page?

I practically do link building for inner pages only ..
the homepage is highly ranked for some competitive keywords and get links naturally, so I don't have to do more linking ..

to be clear here, when I said "big keywords" , I wasn't talking about the Homepage only ..
I have like 6 or 7 important keywords, and separated pages targeting each of these keywords .. The ranking (serp) for these pages didn't decrease , so I'm still getting the same traffic to those pages ..


I will try to have a good look at analytics and come back with some more info ..

Quick update in here .. traffic back to normal ..
I didn't change anything .. I just ignored the traffic drop and continued adding content (maybe more than usual) ..

and now the traffic os back to the old levels .. and it's steady (for 2 weeks now) ..

Looks like panda is improving !

That's encouraging.

I had the same problem with the October Panda update. So far, my only action has been to remove any trace of markup that might be seen as hidden text (mainly tabbed navigation and printer-only content). I think it's highly unlikely that was the cause of the problem, but I thought I'd try removing it to find out.

No improvement so far, but I live in hope.
